One of the highest growing (2550 m above sea level) trees of Siberian Larch (Larix sibirica Ledeb.) on the southern principal slope of the Yuzhno-Chuiskii mountain range. This one grows within the montane tundra belt. On the horrizon seen are the Ukok Plateau and the snowy mountain range Tabyn-Bogdo-Ola (up to 4374 m above sea level), the orographic centre of the Altai Mountains, where meet Russia, Mongolia and China.

Larix sibirica Ledeb. - Siberian Larch - ranges in West Siberia, east of the Yenisei River and Lake Baikal is replaced by Larix gmelinii (Rupr.) Rupr., considered as a distinct species inspite of existence of a tranzitory belt 450-500 km wide!
