Financial Report |
Brief communications are to encourage a rapid sharing of new results that may not meet the standards of a research paper (i.e. allelism tests not completed, map locations only approximate, experiments lacking an appropriate control). Brief communications will not be subjected to peer review, although the editor reserves the right to screen papers for appropriateness and to review submissions for clarity and brevity. Such submissions will be limited to approximately one page and should be narrowly focused. Otherwise, the format of brief communications (tables, references, etc.) should correspond to that of a research paper. Publication of a brief communication in Pisum Genetics does not preclude publication of a full paper on the same subject in a later issue or in another journal.
Two good friends have left the Pisum Genetics Association within the last year or so, and we would like to take this opportunity to wish them well in their future endeavors. Paul Moser, a pea and bean breeder and pathologist and long time member of the PGA retired last year and will be sorely missed. Fortunately Roxanne Mainz is returning to pea breeding for Novartis and has been reinstated as a member of the PGA. The PGA will also miss Dr. Nik Grünwald, who left the USDA at Prosser , WA for another position. During his relatively short stay in Prosser, Nik identified pea germplasm from Afghanistan as being an especially good source of resistance to Fusarium root rot. The Coordinating Committee would also like to welcome several members who have recently joined the PGA, including Steven Antonius of Del Monte Corporation, Aleksandar Mikic and Dr. Vojislav Mihailovic of the Forage Crops Department in Serbia and Montenegro and Dr. Brian Waters of McMurry University in Abilene, TX. Thanks to Dr. Serge Rosov and staff at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics in Novosibirsk, Russia for their efforts in making Pisum Genetics (volumes 29-36) available on the internet (http://hermes.bionet.nsc.ru/pg/). Thanks also to the referees of manuscripts submitted to this volume of Pisum Genetics. Cathy Weeden prepared the final page layout and worked with the printers to ensure a quality product. The financial report of the period October 1, 2003-September 30, 2004 is presented below. Income balanced expense this last year, and the Pisum Genetics Association continues to an adequate buffer of funds to cover expected expenses for the coming year. Membership has remained stable, with some notable retirements and new additions mentioned above. Printing and mailing expenses have also remained relatively constant. As receipts from dues and interest are covering the costs involved in producing Pisum Genetics and getting it to the membership, the Editor is recommending that the annual dues remain at their current level for the next three years. |
